Sorting out the Bowles of Oola
Back to The Bowles of Oola,

The following is the current state of my attempts to sort out a
family tree for this line. Much more information is needed:

4.
Mary Bowles bp. Apr. 4, 1843 Oola (wit: John and Charles Thompson)
(this may be 1.2
William above but there are too many years in between the
generations. It's more likely that there is one more
generation in between them.)

George Bowles b. ~

m. Catherine Ryan (b.

(emigrated from Oola
to NY arriving Aug. 4, 1848 per newspaper article; however,
according to Castle Garden, New York records, George Jr. arrived
alone on June 1, 1836 on the Sylvanns Jenkins at age 24; his mother
Catherine (40) and siblings Bridget (18), Catherine (16) and
Margaret (13) arrived on the Saint Patrick on Aug. 26, 1848; a
Johana and Maurice Bowles, both aged 16, arrived from Ireland on
Sept. 16, 1848 on the Schoodiac, that was probably our Johanna and
Lawrence, many of these immigration records were pretty poorly
recorded; I can't find any sign of George Sr. and Patrick's
immigration records anywhere, possibly they arrived through Canada)

Index but they fit the story told by the census records: in 1901
George was head of the household and was single, in 1911 the head of
the household is a widow named Margaret Bowles; amazingly three
George Bowles died in that area over a span of just 4 years)
