Back to Thomas Bowles, Printer of Dublin
The following is the text of an address given by W. Neilson Hancock to the Dublin Statistical Society in 1860 outlining the harsh labour conditions in Ireland at the time and refers to the leadership of the Dublin Draper's Assistants Associations to protect their worker's rights (on page 402 & 404). The two principle associations were tenants in a building owned by Thomas Bowles, one of my Bowles in our Quaker line in Ireland. His support of the worker's rights movement is a testament to the Quaker belief that all people were equal and of their care of their employees.
