Deaths (08/09/05)
OLSON, Mildred Mable Born in Cecil, Saskatchewan November 10,
1921 went home to be with the Lord on August 05, 2005. A child
of the pioneer Bowles and Doyle families who in 1907 moved to
Saskatchewan from Ontario. Millie was quietly proud of her
heritage particularly when telling of grandfather Levi S. Bowles
raising and training championship work horses. Those teams of
horses were used in building the Regina Dam, laying out Victoria
Park and the grounds around the legislative buildings in Regina.
At age 17 she worked as a housekeeper for the Quinn family of
Prince Albert and then went to cook for the Star and later the
Club Cafe's. Marrying Oscar Olson in February 1946 she moved
onto the farm at Paddockwood. In April of 1963 the farm was sold
and they moved to Nanaimo, B.C., purchasing a home on Girvin.
Once again mom worked as a cook for The Islander Cafe, Lindsay"s
and Smitty's Pancake House then as a housekeeper at the Tally-Ho
Hotel. Having never learned to drive a car Millie loved riding
the transit system where she met many people.
Predeceased by her father
Warden Bowles (1935), her mother AnnDoyle Bowles (1971), her
brother Robert E. Bowles (1985), her sister Mary Bowles Purdy
(1997), and husband Oscar M. Olson in 1995. Mildred is survived
by her son Melvin (Beth), 2 granddaughters Loretta and Jessalyn
both of Nanaimo, 1 great grandson Eric and numerous nieces,
nephews and cousins across Canada. Funeral service will be held
on Thursday August 11, 2005 at 11am at the Hope Lutheran Church
2174 Departure Bay Road, Nanaimo, BC with Reverend Beth Paton
officiating. Internment to follow at 1pm in the family plot at
Nanaimo Municipal Cemetary. YATES FUNERAL SERVICE & CREMATORIUM
