David Bowles of Guysborough's Story

David Bowles was probably born in Ireland about 1805. The first record we have for him in Canada is his marriage to Mary Strople in October 1829 in Guysborough county. The 1838 census shows David living close to the Robert Boles and John Strople farms near Boylston. Some time later they moved to Intervale about 10 miles to the West.

The assumption would be that David Bowles was somehow related to Robert Boles.

Robert Boles, originally from Fethard, Tipperary, did have a brother David (which is not a common name in the Boles/Bowles families) but this David is about 25 years too young. It's more likely that he was a nephew of Robert's. One good possibility would be the David Bowles of Crohane, co. Tipperary who signed the Anti-Catholic Petition which was published in the Tipperary Free Press in 1827. He possibly left Ireland shortly after as a result. Crohane is just a couple of miles north of Fethard and there are definite signs of a connection between the Bowles of Fethard and the Bowles of Crohane.
