See also The Bowles of Wexford for references elsewhere in the county. EnniscorthyA John Boles married Catherine Johnston in Enniscorthy March 5, 1846 (per Cara Links) In the St. Mary's Church cemetery in Enniscorthy there is a monument with "In memory of Georgina Bowles, died March 23rd 1863 age 54 years" on one side and "Her sister Catherine Maria the beloved wife of Barbon Flynn Esq. who died May 16th 1865 aged 50 years" on the other.
BallybrannisIn the 1911 Census there are three young Boles children, Lucey, Mabel and Benie, living with their Uncle and Aunt, Mary and William Plummer, in Ballybrannis, Killoughrum near Enniscorthy, Wexford. These were the children of James Bowles, born in Leitrim but more recently of Thurles, co. Tipperary. Mary Plummer could possibly be his sister except she was born in America. Possibly James Bowles was married to William Plummer's sister. In the 1901 Census the kids were living with their parents in Tipperary. Their mother was born in Wexford which supports the suggestion that it is she who was related to the Plummers. James was from Leitrim. Two of their children were born up north in Belfast and the next two were born in Tipperary. Some disaster likely occurred which resulted in the three children being sent off to live with their Uncle and Aunt.
ClonmoreIt seems that when the school at Clonmore was opened in about 1831 (Lewis reference), the first schoolmaster there was a John Bowles. That doesn't mean that he was from here although he was probably from fairly close by. John Bowles b. ~ m. Anne ~ (in the following two baptisms, John Bowles occupation is given as Schoolmaster) 1. William Bowles bp. Apr. 17, 1831 Clonmore ref. 2. Frederic Augustus Bowles bp. Nov. 17, 1833 Clonmore ref. (despite the coincidence of sharing unusual names, this would not be Major Frederick Augustus Bowles of Guildford, Surrey whose father was Charles Bradshaw Bowles)KillurinIn a row of 5 Carty headstones in the Killurin cemetery there is one for a Bridget Boles alias (nee) Carty who died Aug. 16, 1828 at age 70 which was erected by her son Bartholomew Boles. full inscription It's not likely that the Boles family lived in Killurin though. Bridget was probably just from there and was buried in the family plot.
