 There
are Boles (also spelled Bolls in some references) in both Catahoula and
Opelousas both of which are about 50 miles west of Baton Rouge. I
couldn't say yet whether the Boles in the two communities were likely to
be related. They don't seem to have any connection to my
Bowles in New Orleans.

A Richard Boles is at Catahoula in the 1830
Head of Household Census of Louisiana. I haven't seen the full entry yet.
