The Bowles of Romford

In 1579, Benjamin Bolles exchanged some property in Kentish Town in London for a property called Goldhordes with adjoining orchard and gardens in Aveley just to the SE of Romford.  This is probably Benjamin Bolles of The Bolles of Osberton.  There may be a connection to Derby as this document is at the Derbyshire Record Office.  ref.

There was also a Bowles Great House near Wanstead.  Sir Humphrey Bowles lived at Wanstead Grove, Essex from 1759 to his death in 1784.  He left the house to his son, George Bowles in 1784.  Humphrey’s youngest daughter Rebecca (d. Oct. 3, 1818) m. Sir John Rushout Lord Northwick June 1766 and had daughter Ann.  George died in 1817 and left the house to his niece, the Hon. Ann Rushout.  She rebuilt a new house on the site and died April 4, 1849.  Humphrey Bowles II being 72 passed the house to his son Charles who then sold it.  ref.   See 2.3.12 Humphrey Bowles in the John Bowles of Eltham's Family Tree

There was a Valentine Bowles from Somerset, a Vintner living in Bow, Essex, but his 1637 Will mentions no sons, and no line of descent from him has been established.

The following family tree is based on an LDS Pedigree Resource File submitted to the Family History web site by a David Strauss of Tasmania, Australia.  Several details have been proven to be incorrect in the pedigree and have been removed from the tree.  The remainder is therefore quite suspect and is included here only for the individual b/m/d references it contains.  The resulting structure should not be taken as proven but perhaps some of the events listed may lead someone to look up the appropriate sources.  Any corrections to this tree would be gratefully received.
