Siblings James, Agnes, Jane, Allan and Francis (Frank) Bole with their mother Jane emigrated from Ireland to Canada by 1834. They may have also been accompanied by their father, James Bole, but there is no known record for him in Canada. They first settled in York county and seem to have remained there for about two years. Agnes Bole married in York co. on April 7, 1834. James Bole married in York co. and Jane Bole married in Scarborough, York co. both in 1835. According to the Illustrated Atlas of the Dominion of Canada's Grey County Supplement (1880) the family only settled in St. Vincent township in 1836.

James' sons Frank (Lot 9 Con. 9 St. Vincent twp.) and James Bole's (Lot 4 Con. 2 St. Vincent twp. ref) homesteads can be seen on the above maps.

Early records for this family are sometimes spelt Boles but the later generations seem to have used only Bole. This family is possibly connected to the Boal families in the Ards region of co. Down, Ireland.

Possible family connections for the James Bole family: (these are starting to seem less likely as we learn more about the family but any connection which led to their arrival in the same area could reach back to Ireland)

James could possibly be related to (father of?) Samuel James Bowles of Artemesia twp. or to (brother of?) John Bowles of Derby twp. whose daughter Margaret also married a Cook in 1861. Both of those families live quite close nearby and were from Chinguacousy or Albion, Peel co. The Bowles of Peel county were also from Ireland.
