Ballylynan page of Michael Brennan's Family History site Queens Mary and Elizabeth I had allocated many large areas of Ireland to her loyal followers. These included the Graham and Hovendon families who obtained large land grants in Queen's county. When James I succeeded Elizabeth he redistributed much of those Irish holdings to his own supporters. Walter Weldon obtained land from James I in Queen's county in the early 1600's. By the late 1600's the Weldon family had established an Estate for themselves with a Great House at Raheen (or Rahin) just north of Ballylinan village. Walter Weldon lived at Raheen and held the office of Member of Parliament for County Carlow between 1692 and 1715. His son, Reverend Anthony Weldon, succeeded him and was the Rector at Athy, co. Kildare. His eldest son was Sir Anthony Weldon, 4th Bt. (1781-1858) who became an officer in the service of the Madras Artillery. He held the office of Sheriff of Queen's County in 1839 and succeeded to the title of 4th Baronet Burdett, of Dunmore, co. Carlow [I., 1723] on 14 December 1840. He gained the rank of Colonel in the service of the East Indies Company. He made his home at Rahinderry, Queen's county. ref
