 John Bowles II, the son of John I, was a member of the Bowles printer/publisher family in London from the late 17th century.  See The Bowles Family of London Printers  However, he took a different route.  Early in life, according to his father's Will, he couldn't be trusted to manage money but later in life was a noted political author and was one of the leaders in promoting Christian education in England.  His Will shows that he left substantial amounts to

First to the truly benevolent Societies to be paid out of my personal estate

The Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge 200 pounds

The National Society in Baldwins Gardens for the Education of Youth in the Principles of the Established Church 200 pounds

The Philanthropic Society 100 pounds

The Society called The Refuge for the Destitute 100 pounds

The Society for Bettering the Condition of the Poor 100 pounds

To my dear sister Margaret Eade 200 pounds

To each of my nephews and nieces the children of my said sister 20 pounds

To Mr Carrington Frome 100 pounds

To my old friend John Gifford Esqr 100 pounds and also whatever he may owe me at the time of my death

To my old friend John Taylor Esqr 100 pounds

To John Mathew Grimwood Esqr of Bloomsbury Place 200 pounds to be by him distributed among distressed Clergymen of the Established Church or the widows of such Clergymen

To each of the servants living with me at the time of my death 20 pounds and 10 pounds to them severally as shall have lived with me for the span of 10 years and I do recommend them to provide against old age by regularly depositing their savings in a Savings Bank

And whereas I have been endeavouring for a great part of my life to promote the real happiness of my Countrymen .... my dear friend the Rev. Dr. Gaskin Joshua Watson Esq. George Wharton Marriott 50 pounds and may select such of my publications as they think likely to be useful to publish at the expense of my personal estate, the profits to be distributed among the 6 societies above mentioned and Mr Marchant of Ingram Court to be the printer of such publications

Finally to my dearly beloved wife Jane Bowles to whose affection and kindness I have been indebted for the chief happenings of my life and my union with whom I consider as the greatest earthly blessing it has pleased a gracious savior to bestow

The rest and residue of my estate for her sole use and benefit only requesting her when it shall please God to ...ish it in aus... a better word to bequeath one moiety of the amount of my personal property then left to her to among the members of my own family in such parts shares and proportions as she may think proper

And I appoint my wife sole executor of this my last Will

In witness I have set my hand and seal the 13th day of May 1817

Appeared personally Thomas Moore Foskitt of Grays Inn Square, Middlesex Esq. and Lawrence Brown of Union Court Broad Street London and made oath that they knew and were well acquainted with John Bowles late of Dulwich Common, Surrey deceased and having persued the document they verify it to be in the hand and intent of John Bowles Sept. 29, 1819  (note: this was because he did not have any witnesses sign his Will)

 

Proved at London with two codicils Dec. 4, 1819 by the oath of Jane Bowles widow relict the sole executrix
